On my way

OK, after a ridiculously early departure out of Seattle, I am now in Houston.  In all of my travels, I have never been here.  But, I guess a stopover in the airport really does not count.

Hot and muggy, which I guess is typical.  Reminds me of my first trip to Shanghai where it was so hot and muggy. Seeing Shanghai on a map in the north of China, one would think it was not so hot.  Turns out that it’s latitude is the same as Houston which then explained the weather.  So I guess Houston is a bit like Shanghai. A stretch here, I know.

Ok, the Peru trip.   I started working on this one in January.  Originally it was to be in December with a driving trip to Scotland around now.  But, as I learned more, it was clear that the weather, particularly for Machu Picchu was far better in June, so I moved it to this time slot.  Being 64 now, I also decided that traipsing around Peru at 8,000-12,000 elevation might be easier now than later, and I could drive around Scotland long after Peru would be hard to do.

But that is all said before I get there. I may wish I had done it at 54 or 44 instead of now.  We shall see……

After an overnight at a Lima airport hotel I fly to Cusco and it’s 11,000+ elevation and my reserved “room with oxygen.”  I have never had optional oxygen and look forward to how it is supplied. Will it be a pipe sticking out of the wall to tether myself to, or will it be bottled in the mini bar?  Can’t wait to find out!

  1. Hi Dan,
So great to see you're on your way. Nice first post! May the air be clear and plentiful, with no need for additional O2. Enjoy and keep writing!
